Antique’s most wanted murder suspect jailed

FOLLOWING 16 years in hiding, a man tagged as the no. 1 most wanted murder suspect in Laua-an, Antique was captured by agents of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) inside the Muñoz public market in Quezon City on Tuesday, said PNP-AKG director, Brigadier General Jonnel C. Estomo.

Julio Samiliano was arrested inside a cellphone repair shop in the Q.C. market at 3 p.m. Tuesday on the strength of a warrant for murder issued by Judge Rafael Penuela of the Bugasong, Antique Regional Trial Court Branch 64 on July 11, 2006. No bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of the accused who was arrested by a team of AKG officers led by Captain Montano Nuestro.

Court records showed the suspect allegedly shot to death Evangeline Arnaiz in a creek in Sitio Tig-orang in Barangay Mauno, Laua-an as the victim was collecting water on July 11, 2005.

A personal grudge triggered by a land dispute between the Arnaiz and the Samiliano family was believed to have triggered the killing.

The suspect is now being held at the AKG lock-up facility pending his turnover to the Antique court for issuance of jail commitment order, said Estomo.
