MANILA International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Eric Ines lauded the Airport Police Department (APD) under the leadership of its head, Col. Bing Jose, for helping a family who inadvertently left their luggage left at the compartment of the cab they hailed when they arrived in the country via Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 and went to Seascape Village in Pasay City last June 2, 2024.
Ms. Sam Tyler, in a Facebook post dated July 2, 2024, appealed for help as she and family need to retrieve their luggage which contained important documents.
In her post, Tyler said that at around 5:30 p.m. on July 2, they took a Randes Transport taxicab with plate no. ABE 2775 from the NAIA Terminal 3 with Seascape Village in Pasay City as their destination.
When they reached the said place and disembarked, the driver reportedly left before they could retrieve their luggage from the compartment.
On being informed about the FB post, APD head Col. Bing Jose immediately directed APO1 Valencia to contact the complainant through FB messenger and to gather additional information related to the incident.
Jose also instructed the Police Intelligence and Investigation Division (PIID) to immediately review the CCTV. There, Tyler was seen with her husband entering the departure area at the NAIA Terminal 3 at around 5:38 p.m. of July 2, 2024. They then proceeded to the arrival area to meet her newly-arrived sister, cousin and son.
The white metered taxi with plate no. ABE 2775 that they rode, with body name “Randes Transport” was alarmed by the APD which also tried to contact the operator.
At about 11:30 a.m. of July 4, 2024, Jose said that Tyler informed his office that the taxi dispatcher already reached out to her on Facebook and assured that the recovered luggage and bag will be returned at the soonest time possible.
The taxi driver, identified as Ferdinand Ele, claimed that he did not notice that the passengers had left their baggage inside the compartment and since he was unable to locate the owner, he had decided to turn over the said luggage to their dispatcher’s address located in Bulacan.
The driver told the APD that he and Tyler have agreed on the terms of the return of the said luggage which was done on July 5, 2024 at her sister’s address located in Pasay City.
Tyler then posted on FB that their luggage had been returned and thanked the airport police and the MIAA administration for their help.
