Army Condemns culprits behind gun attacks on CAA members in Maguindanao

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao – The Army’s 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division condemned the atrocious attack of the perpetrators against the members of the CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) on June 17, 2022, along the Awang-Dalican highway in Sitio Gubat, Brgy Makir, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Lieutenant Colonel Samuel C Nadala Jr., Commanding Officer of 2nd Mechanized Infantry (Makasag) Battalion said that CAA Tong Kaul succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds while his colleagues CAA Mama Mohamad, CAA Arsad Datu Ali, and CAA Salindatu Mangulamas were wounded and rushed to the hospital.

“Victims were onboard on a personal civilian vehicle, a Toyota Corolla with plate number UMZ 509 when they were fired upon by unidentified motorcycle-riding perpetrators with the use of automatic rifles, around 10:45 in the morning”, Lt. Col. Nadala said.

Attacks on CAA members

Major Jayne Eyre S Labarda (Inf) PA, Commanding Officer of Division CAA Affairs Unit (DCAU) said that they are on their way back to Bagang Detachment in Guindulungan from Taviran, Datu Odin Sinsuat after attending the culmination of their CAA Refresher Training when they were shot by riding in tandem suspects.

“The case is being investigated to determine the possible motive behind the killing of Kaul and the wounding of three others in the said gun attack on Friday in broad daylight”, Maj. Labarda said. “We condemn these attacks against our CAA members. They served well in our community in Bagang Detachment in the municipality of Guindulungan,” Maj. Labarda added.

Major General Roberto S Capulong, Acting Commander of 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central immediately directed his personnel to collaborate with the local police and other security forces to hunt those responsible for the crime. “This inhumane act of the killing and wounding of our personnel must be condemned to the full extent. JTF Central calls on the populace to remain vigilant of the atrocities of these culprits behind the attack on our personnel hence, this shooting incident deliberately violates the right to life and cannot be justified under any ideology or circumstance”, MGen. Capulong stressed as he assured to continue its fight in attaining lasting peace, free the people from the threats of the perpetrators and safeguard the innocent lives of the peace-loving area of 6ID.
