SOUTHEAST Asian Games silver medalist Rinna Babanto of La Salle University added another feather to her cap by bagging the gold medal in the individual female senior category in the 2020 Smart/MVP Sports Foundation Online National Taekwondo Poomsae Championships.
Babanto, the UAAP Season 81 Poomsae MVP, edged out La Salle teammate Angelica Joyce Gaw for the gold medal with 8.000.
SEA Games gold medalist Jocel Lyn Ninobla of University of Santo Tomas and teammate Jade Ashley Carno earned the bronze with 7.933 and 7.767, respectively.
“God is really good. I’m really a firm believer that when you believe in yourself, give your best while handling your own battle at the same time and trust God to handle it for you, he wilk do the rest,” said Babanto in her Facebook post recently.
“I also congratulate the Philippine Taekwondo Association for the successful event and my DLSU teammates for a successful performance,” added Babanto, who is also best remembered for winning a bronze medal in the women’s team event in the 2018 Asian Games.
Earlier, Babanto admitted she has fully adjusted to the restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Since nag start yung quarantine, tuloy naman yun training ko dito sa dorm ng La Salle dahil malaki ang space namin. Tuloy din yun mga online training and competitions namin thru the PTA. May training progrm kami,” said Babanto during the Sept. 3 edition of the TOPS “Usapang Sports on Air” via Zoom.
