THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) again moved to Saturday, January 25, the printing of ballots that will be used for the National and Local Elections (NLE) on May 12, 2025.

Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said this is due to the new temporary restraining orders (TROs) issued by the Supreme Court (SC) in favor of two candidates for the midterm polls.

It was learned from Garcia that the printing would have begun again on January 22 but this was halted after new TROs were issued by the SC in favor of the candidacy of Francis Leo Marcos who is running for Senator and Noel Rosal, who is seeking the gubernatorial post in Albay.

Garcia thanked the SC for immediately releasing the new TROs before the poll body has resumed the ballot printing.

It will be recalled that the Comelec first held the ballot printing after the SC issued TROs for five candidates whose names would have to be included in the ballots to be utilized in the May polls.

This resulted in a wastage of about six million ballots worth P132 million.
