Banca capsizes off Cavite bay, 12 rescued

CAVITE CITY, Cavite — Twelve persons were rescued by elements of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) – Cavite after their banca capsized after being hit by 7:20 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021, in the waters of Barangay 49M, Bagong Pook, Sangley Point here.

Members of the PCG Cavite City and PCG Noveleta rescued the 12 individuals including three minors.

Leuitenant Micheal Encina, PCG – Cavite Provincial Commander, identified those rescued as boat captain Erwin Ferrer, 60, and passengers Mary Jane Ferrer, 39, Kurt John Above, 27, Maii Ferrer, 18, Arvie Gabrinao, 26, Emily Ferrer, 58, Ivan Salvador, 13, Myco Bantilo, 10, Anthony Ledesma, 38, Mark Justine Ferrer, 21, Ronaldo Deluna, 53 and Donna Larace ,16.

Initial investigation showed the victims departed from the Bernabe Compound in Pulang Lupa 1, Las Piñas City at about 7:30 a.m. on April 5, 2021, for Cavite City to celebrate the birthday of Erwin Ferrer.

They left Cavite City at 5 p.m. on the same date for Las Piñas City. However, their yellow motorized banca encountered big waves and capsized.

PCG personnel on board a PCG vehicle and the Coast Guard Rescue team ferried the victims to their respective homes to ensure their safety.
