THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary elections will be held on March 31, 2026.

This, after the Supreme Court decided to postpone the said polls and declared as ‘unconstitutional’ Bangsamoro Autonomy Act No. 77 and BAA No. 58.

“There shall be the first Bangsamoro parliamentary elections, the first in history, to be conducted on March 31,” said Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia.

It was learned that the Supreme Court tasked the Bangsamoro Transition Authority to determine the distribution of district parliamentary seats up to October 30, 2025.

The Comelec was also tasked with holding the elections not later than March 31, 2026.

Garcia assured that the Comelec will follow the directive of the Supreme Court and will not appeal the said decision.

The Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections was originally set to be held alongside the May 12, 2025 midterm elections but it was moved to October 31 2025 only to be moved again.
