SENATOR Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on Saturday confirmed that he is positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“I’m sorry to inform you that I tested positive for Covid19 yesterday. To all who made contact with me, please do the appropriate protocols,” dela Rosa said.

The senator’s camp also confirmed that dela Rosa’s eldest daughter also tested positive for the virus.

Because of this, all senators and staff who may have had contact with dela Rosa will undergo swab test.

“Well he was in the Senate last Wednesday but we did not have any close contact. But nag swab anti gen test na rin kami last night. Negative naman ako,” Senate President Tito Sotto said.

During the Senate’s closing of interpellation for the proposed P4.5 trillion national budget for 2021 on Friday, Sen. Richard Gordon reminded his fellow lawmakers to observe if they would develop symptoms if one of them got exposed to one of their colleagues.

“The suspect is here on Wednesday. So that’s Wednesday. We are now Friday,” Senator Migz Zubiri responded.

The Senate is conducting hybrid sessions since the pandemic with some senators and their staff along with resource persons from various government agencies physically present and others only virtually.

Dela Rosa is the fifth senator to test positive for COVID 19 . Ahead were Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri and Senators Sonny Angara, Koko Pimentel and Bong Revilla.
