Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco issued a clarification after Cong. Arnolfo Teves, Jr. made a post on social media stating concern on his well-being after seeing an alleged message from the BI chief, instructing concerned BI personnel to monitor his arrival.

Tansingco said the instruction is merely a part of the BI’s protocols in monitoring individuals who are subject of high profile cases and that coordination with local law enforcement agencies is crucial in the proper implementation of BI procedures.

Arresting Filipino nationals is not within the scope of the agency, he said, adding that additionally, the BI received a request from the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group yesterday to expedite Cong. Teves’ arrival formalities should he arrive the country, as they will be providing security assistance to ensure his security and safety.

The BI is committed to ensuring fair, safe, and proper processing of all immigration-related matters, with a strong focus on protecting the rights and welfare of individuals,he stressed.
