AN Indian-Nepalese national tagged by authorities in New Delhi as a ranking leader of a separatist terror group and who is also said to be a wanted criminal in India was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Joginder Geong, 41, was arrested Monday at his residence in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental by operatives from the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) headed by Rendel Ryan Sy.
Sy said that Geong, who is known to use several aliases including Joginder Geyong and Kanta Gupta, will be deported for being an undesirable, undocumented and illegally-staying alien whose presence here amounts to a blatant violation of our immigration laws.
It was learned that a mission order was issued by the BI for Geong’s arrest at the request of the Indian government which informed the BI about his alleged involvement in criminal activities and terrorism in their country.
“Indian authorities have described Geong as a notorious criminal with a history of serious offenses including murder, extortion, and robbery,” the BI chief said, adding that the Indian is suspected of heading an organized crime syndicate and was sentenced to life imprisonment for firearms possession cases in India.
Tansingco said Geong is also believed to have links to the Khalistani terror group which has waged an armed separatist rebellion with the aim of establishing an independent Sikh state in Punjab province, India.
Pending his deportation proceedings, Geong is now detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
