A male Russian disc jockey (DJ) was arrested at a club in a Pasay City mall for undesirability, by members of tdhe Bureau of Immigration (BI) intelligence division (BI-ID)
It was learned from BI-ID Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato ‘Jun’ Manahan, Jr. that the Russian, identified as Andrei Umanskii, 36, was apprehended following an order from the BI’s Board of Commissioners for his expulsion from the country.
Manahan said Umanskii will be temporarily held in the BI’s facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa before his eventual deportation.
The Russian was ordered deported in 2023 after the BI’s board of commissioners found him to be overstaying for more than three years, Manahan added.
Based on records, Umanskii has previously made headlines on two separate occasions in Palawan for his involvement in altercations.
In 2020, he was arrested in El Nido for resisting and disobeying persons in authority after local officials reported that he was drunk and sowed violence in their barangay.
Also in 2022, he was cited in a news report for assaulting a tricycle driver in Puerto Princesa.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco emphasized the agency’s stance on such behavior, stating: “the bureau…does not welcome foreigners who abuse the country’s hospitality. We are committed to maintaining peace and order, and we will take necessary actions against those who violate our laws.”
Tansingco also issued a warning to all foreign nationals, urging them to respect and follow the laws of the Philippines.
“Foreign nationals should be mindful of their behavior and adhere to our regulations. We will not tolerate any actions that disrupt the peace and safety of our communities,” he stressed.
