CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – A Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) Field Commander and five (5) of its followers under Karialan Faction decided to voluntarily yield to the Local Government Unit of Datu Paglas, Maguindanao and security forces under the 40th Infantry Battalion on November 24, 2021.

Lieutenant Colonel Edwin Alburo, Commanding Officer of the 40IB disclosed that the said surrender was a joint effort of the LGU and military forces. “The sustained military operations of the Joint Task Force Central coupled with the unwavering support of the Local Government Unit in maintaining the peace and order influenced the said former BIFF Combatants to yield to the government which continuously weakens the said extremist group”, Ltc. Alburo added.

The former rebels brought along with them one (1) 5.56mm M16 A1 rifle, one (1) Ultimax 100 Singapore-made 5.56mm light machine gun, one (1) 7.62mm M14 rifle, two (2) locally made Barret sniper rifles and one (1) RPG.

Commander of the Joint Task Force Central and the 6th Infantry Division, Major General Juvymax Uy lauded the efforts of the troops involved and the Local Government Unit of Datu Paglas, Maguindanao.

“The surrender of the BIFF Field Commander and its members is a clear manifestation that their organization is dwindling and in the brink of defeat. Through our intensified collaboration with the LGUs in the Municipal and Provincal level and the community, along with implementation of the AGILA-HAVEN Program of Maguindanao Province, we are hopeful to encourage other BIFF members who are still in hiding to surrender and start living normal lives again with their families,” Maj. Gen. Uy said.
