BJMP officer ambushed

AN officer of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) was killed by two riding-in-tandem criminals in an ambush yesterday morning in Parañaque City.

J/Senior Insp. Robert Barquez, assistant jail warden of the BJMP Quezon City annex, Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City died on the spot from bullet wounds in the body while the still unidentified suspects immediately escaped after the killing.

The incident, according to Paranaque police chief P/Col Rogelio Rosales, Jr., happened at around 11 a.m. along Doña Soledad Street in Bgy. Don Bosco.

The victim was driving a black Mitsubishi Expander bearing plate number B51437 and traversing along Doña Soledad heading towards Multinational Village when two men on board a motorcycle blocked his path near Banco de Oro and shot him repeatedly, killing him instantly.

After the killing, the suspects, both wearing black jackets, sped away towards an unknown direction.

A follow-up operation was still ongoing for possible identification and arrest of the suspects while the motive behind the killing is yet to be determined.
