CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan – Governor Daniel Fernando on Saturday announced that he has tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Fernando said he was “positive-asymptomatic”, based on the results of his swab test released on Friday.
He said he decided to undergo self-quarantine at his official residence where he would continue to lead the provincial government, particularly its response to the pandemic.
Appearing to be in high spirits, Fernando said he has experienced no symptoms over the past 24 hours.
He said his face-to-face interaction with the public would be temporarily suspended during his two-week isolation.
It is suspected that the governor got the infection from a board member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board), whom he recently met in a couple of official functions and who had turned out positive for the virus.
Meanwhile, Philippine National Police Health Service yesterday recorded another 150 new COVID-19 cases in the force, 55 of them coming from the National Capital Region Police Office, the Journal Group learned.
The others are the following: 32 from different PNP National Administrative Support Units (NASUs); 22 from various PNP National Operational Support Units or NOSUs; 15 from the Police Regional Office 2 in Cagayan Valley; 14 from the PRO4-A in Calabarzon region; 10 from PRO8 in Eastern Visayas; and 1 each from PRO4-B in Mimaropa region and the PNP National Headquarters in Camp Crame.
As of 6 p.m. Friday, there were a total of 3,901 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the PNP with 16 deaths and 2,707 recoveries.
