Busy day at TOPS session

ANOTHER busy Thursday awaits sports fans as the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) plays host to three more sports leaders in the weekly “Usapang Sports on Air” via Zoom.

Philippine women’s softball team and Adamson University coach Ana Santiago, Philspada- Philippine Paralympic Commitee secretary-general Walter Torres and Kurash Sports Federation of the Philippines president Rolan Llamas will share their thoughts in their respective sports during the pandemic-hit sporting season.

Santiago will discuss the Blu Girls’ preparation for the coming SEA Games in Vietnam and the Lady Falcons’ campaign for 15th consecutive crown in the UAAP in case they resume this year
Torres will talk about the country’s preparations for the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics set Aug.24-Sept. 5, the 2021 Bahrain Asian Youth Para Games on Dec. 1-10 and 2021 Vietnam ASEAN Para Games on Dec. 17-23.

Torres, the last Filipino fencer to qualify in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, will also give insights on the training of local fencers in Ormoc and in the US for the Olympic qualifiers set later this month.

TOPS president Ed Andaya of People’s Tonight is inviting all officers and members, and friends in the sports community, to join the 10 a.m. sports session presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and Games and Amusements Board (GAB).

This is the 14th session for the year and second for the month of TOPS, which is composed of editors, columnists, reporters and photographers of the country’s leading national tabloids and blogger-friends from different social media groups.

Last month, TOPS celebrated women’s month with the PSL Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup Alexa Polidario and Erjane Magdato of Abanse Negrense last March 4; PSC Commissioner Celia Kiram, Philippine Sports Hall of Fame awardee Elma Muros-Posadas and mixed martial arts superstar Lara Pearl Alvarez of Team Lakay last March 11; Philippine Olympians Association president Akiko Thomson-Guevara, taekwondo champion-coach Janice Lagman-Lizardo and duathlon star Pawie Fornea last March 18; and Milo stars Pauline Lopez and Stephen Fernandez, obstacle course racinng champion Kaizen dela Sena and table tennis star Rose Jean Fadol last March 25.

After the Holy Week break, BaliPure Water Defenders team manager Gil Cortez, coach Rommel Abella and players Sati Espiritu and Gyra Barroga, former SEA Games long jump bronze medalist Khay Santos of Baguio City and mixed martial arts stars Jennelyn Olsim and Jomar James Pa-Ac of Team Lakay attended the session.
