THE Masbate Airport is now operational and ready to accommodate flights and passengers.
This was announced by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), with spokesman Eric Apolonio saying that the airport sustained an estimated P10 to P15 million worth of structural damage due to Typhoon Opong.
Immediate clearing and safety measures were undertaken to restore operations and ensure the safety of travelers, he said.
Apolonio said that following the inspection of Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez at the facility on Saturday, September 27, CAAP secured the immediate availability of repair supplies and strengthened its standby inventory to address future requirements.
“The Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) has been declared safe for occupancy. All hazardous materials and debris previously hanging from the ceiling have been removed to ensure passenger safety and convenience. Temporary roofing has been installed to provide protection, while power supply and internet connectivity have been fully restored. While the airport is ready to resume operations, the resumption of flights will remain at the discretion of the airlines,” Apolonio said.
CAAP assures the public that it will continue to implement necessary improvements, and uphold its commitment to safe, reliable, and efficient air travel for all, in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., he added.
