CAAP: Batanes airport affected by Typhoon “Henry”

A situational report issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Area Center 2, through its Manager Mary Sulyn Sagorsor, the Basco Airport in Batanes is currently experiencing intermittent moderate to heavy rains and wind speeds of 14 knots, with a direction of 300 degrees and gustiness up to 25 knots.

Upon securing the airport’s facility as part of its standard operating procedures, non-essential employees of CAAP Basco have been sent home afterwards, following the governor’s memorandum suspending office work in the province.

CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio said airport managers remain on high alert and are closely supervising their respective airports; while situation reports are also continuously monitored and consolidated by the CAAP Operations Center (OPCEN).

Despite cancellation of all flights, airport security remains on-duty 24/7 at Basco Airport, Apolonio said.
