Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro Mayor Malou Flores-Morillo, the first lady mayor ever to be elected in the highest post in the said city, was bestowed with the prestigious recognition as a “Most Outstanding Mayor” awardee in the Philippines.
The said award was given at the “Gawad Pilipino Lingkod Bayan Awards 2024” during ceremonies held at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City where different public servants and personalities from different fields were recognized by the Civil Service Commission for their excellent performance.
Morillo, in accepting the award, said: “A sincere thank you to the Gawad Pilipino Lingkod Bayan Awards 2024 for the recognition as one of the ‘Most Outstanding City Mayor’ awardees in the Philippines. This honor is not only for me, but for the entire Calapan City and all Calapeños who continue to trust, support and unite our aspirations.”
“Your love and cooperation are the true strength of our city. Let’s just keep doing what is right—as a guide to our continuous elevation and progress. Thank you very much! Long live Calapan City! Long live the Calapeños!,” she said.
Among Morillo’s numerous notable programs that merited the recognition are the free health care services in every barangay in Calapan City which, she said, is one of the highlights of the Expanded Health Program launched by her administration.
The said program, Morillo said, is meant to bring straight to the community level all the free health services being provided by the city government, especially for the less-privileged residents of Calapan.
With the said program in place, residents needing free medical services no longer have to spend their precious money, time and effort to go to the city hall and avail of the free health services since they are already being brought right at their doorsteps through the efforts of Morillo’s stewardship.
Among the free services offered are check-ups, tooth extraction, medicines, health cards, Philhealth, ENT (eyes, nose and throat) check and even xerox of documents needed in the process.
Morillo expressed gratitude to the award-giving body and the people of Calapan, saying the recognition bestowed on her leadership is an affirmation of the effectiveness of the programs and projects put in place by her administration, adding that the recognition will serve as an inspiration for her and her team to do even better in the years ahead, in its aim of providing excellence in public service and continued good governance.
