Caloocan to procure Covovax vaccine

CALOOCAN City Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan and other local government officials met with the representatives of Faberco Life Sciences, Inc. in a virtual meeting on Wednesday to talk about the possible procurement of Covovax vaccine.

The Faberco Life Sciences, Inc. is the sole distributor of Covovax vaccine in the Philippines which was developed by US-based biotechnology company Novavax.

Among those discussed in a meeting was the efficacy of the vaccine, its possible side effects and the proper purchasing process of the Covovax vaccine.

Included in the meeting with Mayor Oca were Secretary to the Mayor Betsy Luakian Kaw, Chief of Staff Jeremy Regino and City Health Officer Dr. Evelyn Cuevas.

They were joined by representatives of Faberco Life Sciences, Inc. led by its founder Kishore Hemlani, Head Jun Bautista, Medical Director Dr. Luningning Elio-Villa, and Business Development Manager Sherry Panemanglor.

Mayor Oca said the city government is set to purchase an additional vaccine against the coronavirus disease to provide free vaccines to 1.1 million residents of the city.

Earlier, the city government of Caloocan has signed an agreement with British pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca for the advance purchase of at least 600,000 doses of its vaccine which is expected to arrive at the second quarter of the year.
