Cagayan de Oro City – In a meaningful initiative to promote wellness and care for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), the Cagayan de Oro City Jail-Male Dormitory (CDOCJ-MD), under the supervision of City Jail Warden JSUPT MARLON J YMBALLA, DSC, hosted a Health Outreach Program in partnership with the Cagayan de Oro City Hospital–Lumbia and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).
The outreach was led by Dr. Ferdinand Miranda, Acting Chief of CDO City Hospital–Lumbia, and Dr. Lowela Intud, along with thirteen hospital staff and three personnel from the CDRRMO.
The program provided essential medical services to the PDL, including medical consultations, blood sugar testing, and provision of medications. Each of the PDL beneficiaries also received a one-month supply of multivitamins. To foster warmth and a sense of community, attendees were served free arroz caldo, and sports equipment including a basketball and volleyball was donated to encourage recreation and wellness.

This initiative, conducted in celebration of Diabetes Awareness Month and with the support of Hon. Rolando “Klarex” A. Uy, demonstrates the City Jail’s commitment to the health, well-being, and morale of PDL. The goal is to extend care and compassion to all members of the community, including those behind bars. By promoting health, wellness, and recreation, it fosters a supportive and humane environment.
Through this collaborative effort, CDOCJ-MD, the CDO City Hospital–Lumbia, and CDRRMO continue to show that community care and support extend beyond walls, providing both immediate health benefits and hope for a better quality of life for the PDL.
