ALTHOUGH he had announced backing out of the senatorial race in the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE), the name of former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson will still be included in the officials ballots for the said polls.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia said the printing of the official ballots for the 2025 elections had already begun and that they can no longer be changed even after Singson had officially done his withdrawal of his candidacy.
In case Singson gets votes despite backing out, such votes will just be considered as ‘stray,’ Garcia said.
The Comelec chair clarified that Singson would have to officially and personally withdraw his candidacy, adding that such cannot be done by a representative.
It will be recalled that Singson had announced over social media only, his decision to no longer run for Senator, citing health reasons.
