China airs sympathy with Ulysses victims

THE Chinese Government yesterday extended sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives when Typhoon Ulysses battered the Philippines on Thursday and said it is ready to support the government in its relief efforts.

“We are deeply saddened and worried to know that serious damages were brought due to Typhoon Ulysses (Vamco),” a statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Manila said.

It said “We stand by all those affected and in particular expressed our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives. we stand ready to support the Philippines in its relief effort.”

Earlier, the Chinese Embassy committed to the donation of relief goods worth P7 million through local communities to the affected people by Typhoon Rolly (Goni).

Typhoon Ulysses severely affected Metro Manila particularly Marikina City, San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal, Pasig and other parts of Luzon, submerging thousands of barangays in floodwater.

Among the worst hit was the Bicol region which has yet to recover from the damage caused by Super Typhoon Rolly that struck on Nov. 1.
