Chinese kidnap victim rescued in Pampanga

A CHINESE national said to have been kidnapped in Pasay City and held in a transient house inside Clark Freeport Zone in Mabalacat City, Pampanga was rescued by agents of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) late night Sunday, said a report to PNP chief, General Debold M. Sinas yesterday.

The alleged kidnap victim identified as Zhang Liang was found alone in a room of a transient house alomg Ramon Magsaysay Avenue in Purok Kalaw in Mabalacat City 10:45 p.m. Sunday, said PNP-AKG director, Brigadier Gen. Jonnel C. Estomo.

Estomo said members of the AKG Luzon Field Unit and the Mabalacat City Police Station led by Captain Allan Dale Ginez found the Chinese national alone in his room with no sign of his alleged kidnappers.

The PNP-AKG director said he ordered the rescue operation following a complaint from the Consular Affairs Division of the Chinese Embassy about the case of one of their citizens who reportedly became a victim of kidnapping and illegal detention in Mabalacat City.

Estomo said that during initial questioning, the alleged kidnap victim claimed he was seized by unidentified men in Pasay City and dragged into a waiting getaway van from Pasay City before being brought to Clark Freeport.

The Chinese Embassy said that the alleged kidnap victim was able to contact a friend and share his location thru a Google application which enabled authorities to trace his exact location.

“We’re still investigating this case,” said Estomo. PNP-AKG agents since last year have rescued unharmed a number of Chinese nationals who went to the country to work in POGO companies or online gaming sites but ended up being abducted and tortured by Chinese gangsters to force them to pay ransom.
