FOR using a fraudulently acquired working visa, Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) arrested a 23-year-old Chinese man at the immigration departure area of the NAIA terminal 1.
The passenger was identified as Li Xuanjun, who was intercepted last January 22 before he could board a Philippine Airlines flight to Quanzhou, China.
He was arrested after the immigration officer who processed him saw that his name had prompted a hit in the bureau’s automated derogatory check system. The hit indicated that the passenger was wanted by the BI for possessing a working visa which he acquired through fraud and misrepresentation.
Subsequent verification made by the BI supervisors on duty confirmed that Li and the person who is subject of the derogatory hit are one and the same.
The passenger was turned over to personnel of the BI’s border control and intelligence unit (BCIU) who later brought him to the BI warden facility in Taguig City where he will remain while undergoing deportation proceedings.
Records showed that Li’s working visa was canceled by the BI in 2023 after investigation revealed that he acquired his visa upon the petition of a fictitious employer-company.
A check with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reportedly found that the purported firm is non-existent.
The findings prompted the BI board of commissioners to declare null and void the working visa issued to Li on the ground that the said visa was issued based on false facts and representations of the applicant.
The BI will be deporting Li for being an undesirable alien as he acquired a visa through dishonest means. His inclusion in the BI blacklist effectively bans him from re-entering the Philippines ever again.
