A Chinese man wanted by authorities in Beijing for trafficking his compatriots out of China to work for online gaming establishments operating in the Philippines was nabbed by the Bureau of Immigration (BI).
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the fugitive as Wang Chuancong, 35. He was arrested last July 30 inside his condominium unit along Roxas Blvd., Parañaque City by operatives from the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) under Rendel Ryan Sy.
Sy said that Wang is already an undocumented alien due to the cancellation of his passport by the Chinese government.
A check of the BI’s travel database showed that Wang had been staying in the Philippines since February when he arrived as a tourist, Sy said, adding that Wang was committed to the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
It was learned from Tansingco that he issued a mission order for Wang’s arrest at the request of the Chinese government which informed the bureau about the fugitive’s presence in the country.
Wang is said to be subject of a detention warrant issued the municipal public security bureau in Jinjiang, China issued in April 2024 where he was charged for human trafficking which is a serious criminal offense under Chinese law.
“We were told that he heads a syndicate that facilitates the illegal departure of Chinese nationals by forging documents to facilitate their outbound travel in China. This allows them to travel to different countries including the Philippines to work in online gaming hubs,” the BI chief added.
