A 22-year old Chinese-Filipino student died after jumping off from the roof deck of a 56-storey condominium building in Tondo, Manila, reportedly after being scolded by his parents for failing in his theses for the second time.
The incident took place at the Orchard Residences in Masangkay, Tondo, Manila and the victim was declared dead at the Metropolitan Hospital at 1:08 a.m.
A probe by PMSg Arvy Macarasig of the Manila Police District -homicide section said that before the incident, the victim was said to have been admonished by his parents when he flunked his thesis for the second time in a row.
Security guard Havid Vero said he was doing the rounds when he heard a loud thud at 11:45 p.m. When he looked where the sound came from, he saw the victim sprawled on the floor.
The victim was said to have fallen at the Rectory Building inside the St. Stephen Parish Compound in Masangkay, Tondo.
After the victim’s father confirmed that the fatality was indeed his own son, he asked the security guard to help him bring the victim to the hospital to no avail.
Police are investigating to establish if the victim’s death was attended by foul play or not.
