Christmas Party in Jails? It is Possible at Iligan City Jail-Male Dormitory!

In an inspiring move reminiscent of Mary Jane Veloso’s opportunity to spend Christmas with her family in prison, Iligan City Jail-Male Dormitory is opening its doors wide for a heartwarming celebration. From December 19 to 22, persons deprived of liberty (PDL) will have the chance to experience the holiday season with their loved ones in a unique and unprecedented way.

Breaking away from the usual visiting restrictions, this event offers unlimited visitation time throughout the day, allowing PDL to be with as many immediate family members as they wish. Families will bring food, creating a festive atmosphere filled with shared meals and joyous moments.

The celebration includes a variety of activities designed to bring joy and fun to PDL and their families, especially the children. Parlor games such as flour blowing and banana eating contests will entertain and engage everyone. Children will also enjoy special treats like spaghetti and ice cream. A photo booth will be available to capture the precious memories shared by PDL and their families.

Moreover, the facility will host volleyball and basketball tournaments, along with dance and caroling contests, fostering a spirit of competition and festivity among PDL. The jail will also facilitate unlimited visitation on Christmas and New Year, providing ample time for families to bond and create lasting memories.

City Jail Warden JCI Carmelo A Corsame emphasizes the significance of these events: “This is one way of showing compassion to PDL during this yuletide season. It helps navigate the emotions of PDLs during the holidays.”

The initiative at Iligan City Jail-Male Dormitory reflects a deep commitment to supporting the emotional well-being of PDL and their families, ensuring that even behind bars, they can experience the joy and togetherness that the holiday season brings. This compassionate approach mirrors the positive impact of allowing families like Mary Jane Veloso’s to celebrate Christmas together, highlighting the importance of love, connection, and understanding, no matter the circumstances.
