ALL classes and work in Manila are suspended on January 9, 2026 in celebration of the annual Feast of the Black Nazarene and the holding of the ‘Traslacion.’
Said suspension is contained in Executive Order No. 1, Series of 2026 issued by the city government of Manila, where it was announced that all its offices and classes in all levels of public and private schools are covered, to give the devotees the opportunity to join the yearly ‘Traslacion’.
Meanwhile, the offices in charge of public services, traffic enforcement, disaster risk reduction and health services will continue to be in operation on the said day.
The decision to suspend work in national government and private offices within Manila will be left to the discretion of their respective management.
Relatedly, just like every year, a liquor ban will be implemented within the 500-meter radius of Quiapo Church and the route of the slated ‘Traslacion‘ which is attended by millions of devotees.
Also prohibited from January 8 to 9 are the manufacture, sale and distribution of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.
