FOR joking that solo parents who still menstruate may go to bed with him once a year, a candidate for Congressman in Pasig City had been issued a show cause order (SCO) by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Atty. Christian Sia, who is a candidate for Congressman in the second district of Pasig City, is being asked to explain regarding his pronouncements which form an election offense and why he should not be held liable or disqualified from the race.
Sia was given three days to explain in the order which partly stated: “In view of the foregoing, you are hereby ordered to show cause in writing within a non-extendible period of three days from receipt hereof and to explain why a complaint for election offense and/or a petition for disqualification should not be filed against you.”
“Failure on your part to comply with this Order shall be construed a waiver of your right to be heard and the filing of the appropriate case against you,” the order signed by Director Sonia Bea Wee-Lozada, Head of Task Force SAFE, further said.
It was learned that the Comelec acted ‘motu propio’ or without any formal complaints being lodged regarding the video that came out on social media regarding the green joke that Sia made during a campaign event he held on April 3, 2025.
In the said video, Sia said: “Ito ang ambag ko sa mga solo parent ng Pasig. Minsan sa isang taon, ang mga solo parent na babae na nireregla pa… at nalulungkot. Minsan sa isang taon, pwedeng sumiping ho sa akin.”
The Comelec headed by Chairman George Erwin Garcia said that Sia may face a violation of Comelec Resolution No.11116 Section 3 or the Anti-Discrimination and Fair Campaigning Guidelines For Purposes of the 12 May 2025 National and Local Elections and BARMM Parliamentary Elections.
This is aside from violation of Republic Act 7277 or Magna Carta of Women at RA 11313 or Safe Spaces Act and Discrimination Against Women and gender-based harassment.
