THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) Second Division has cancelled the registration of the Duterte Youth party-list.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia said that with a 2-1 vote, the Comelec Second Division decided on the matter and the promulgation was held on Wednesday.
The decision stemmed from a case filed in 2019 against the said group.
“The Comelec will release today the resolution on Duterte Youth by a vote of 2-1, cancelling the registration of Duterte Youth party-list,” Garcia said.
It was learned that some youth leaders have filed a petition seeking to nullify the registration of the Duterte Youth, saying it was approved en banc without publication and there was no hearing held on the application of the party-list pursuant to the Party-list System Act.
Garcia said the decision is not yet final and executory and the partylist group may still file an appeal or a motion for reconsideration.
“The decision of the division is not final, and there is a chance that the vote of one member might change when the en banc is held,” Garcia explained.
The Duterte Youth placed second in the 2025 party-list race held on May 12 but it has not been proclaimed due to its cases pending before the Comelec.
Asked on the possibility that the group may not be proclaimed at all, Garcia said the decision may still be reversed by the Comelec En Banc.”
