THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) extended the registration period for local absentee voting (LAV) from March 7 to March 17, 2025.

Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia said that based on a resolution issued on Monday, the poll body extended the deadline for the LAV registrants from April 8 to April 11.

Meantime, the Comelec also set to April 27 the transmittal of the list of qualified local absentee voters, local absentee ballots and other election forms.

Garcia said the Comelec decided to extend the LAV due to mounting requests.

“Whereas, in light of numerous requests for extensions of the aforementioned deadlines from various government units, offices, agencies and departments and considering the observance of Holy Week from April 17 to April 20, 2025, the Commission deems it necessary to amend Comelec Resolution No. 11091,” part of the resolution said.

Among the absentee voters in the country are members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP) and media practitioners who will be on duty on election day.

The voting period for absentee voters will begin on April 28 and end on April 30, 2025.
