COMELEC Holds Special Satellite Registration for Persons Deprived of Liberty

In an effort to ensure the inclusion of all eligible voters in the upcoming elections, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) conducted a Special Satellite Registration for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail-Male Dormitory yesterday.

The registration event was carried out under the guidance of the City Jail Warden, JSUPT WILLIAM T MANENGYAO, and Deputy Warden, JINSP GARY L MAGDALE. They were instrumental in facilitating the process alongside COMELEC staff from Districts 1 and 2. EA II Ruel Basilan of District 1 and EA II Jackelyn C. Citan of District 2 led their respective teams in ensuring a smooth registration process for the non-registered PDLs.

PDL right to vote

This initiative is in line with the memorandum issued by JCSUPT CESAR MACALINGA LANGAWIN, Regional Director of BJMPRO-X, dated February 7, 2024, concerning the Special Satellite Registration for PDL voters, and further adheres to the guidelines for clustering established precincts as stipulated in the July 16, 2024 memorandum. These measures underscore the commitment to upholding the constitutional rights of all eligible voters, including those currently deprived of liberty, to participate in the 2025 National and Local Elections. Registered PDL, comprising both Male and Female Dormitories:

– 1st District: 184

– 2nd District: 26

– Total: 210

The Special Satellite Registration aims to enable PDL to exercise their right to vote in the forthcoming elections, thus ensuring their voice is heard in the democratic process.
