MORE than 30 candidates for the May 12 national and local elections are slated to face disqualification cases due to illegal campaign materials while three more may also face disqualification for violation of the anti-discrimination resolution.
Commission on Election (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia said 30 to 35 candidates, including a senatorial bet, will be charged by the Comelec Task Force Baklas due to violation of the poll body’s regulations on illegal campaign materials.
“Mga 30 to 35 katao ang kakasuhan ng Task Force Baklas officially ng kaso dahil sa hindi pagtatanggal ng mga campaign materials na ni-require ng task force na tanggalin and despite several notices at pakiusap,” Garcia said.
Meanwhile, three candidates will also be facing disqualification petition to be filed by the Task Force SAFE (Safeguarding Against Fear and Exclusion in Election) of the Comelec for violation of the anti-discrimination resolution.
“May tatlong kakasuhan ang Comelec sa anti-discrimination resolution bagamat madami nang nakasuhan ang Comelec ay may napili na maaaring guilty sa pambabastos o pandi-discriminate ng ibang tao,” Garcia stated.
The poll body chief expressed dismay that such incidents continue despite the fact that many have been charged and some have already been disqualified.
Garcia said the Comelec will not proclaim those who have pending cases in case they win in the coming elections.
