Commission on Election (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia announced that they have raised to already 1.5 million the targetted number of registrants for the 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), after the poll body acheived the initial target of one million registrants in just five days.

Garcia said that up to August 5 only, the number of voter applications received by the Comelec for the 2025 BSKE already reached a million.

“Base sa estimate natin, halos mahigit na tayong isang milyon after five days ng registration. Ito na ang pinakamadami sa panahon sa kasaysayan ng Comelec, kasaysayan ng elections sa bansa. Nagtataka kami pero kami ay natutuwa dahil biro ninyo sa napakaigsing panahon, mahigit isang milyon,” said Garcia.

The Comelec chief expressed confidence that they will be able to get new registrants of anywhere from 300,000 to 500,000 in the remaining days of registration.

“Inaasahan natin sa mga naitira pa na mga limang araw pa na mas dadami pa. Siguro, aabutin tayo ng 1.3 million hanggang 1.5 million new registrants sa sampung araw lang na ‘yan,” he added.

The Comelec began the voter registration for the 2025 BSKE last August 1 and it is expected to run until August 10. Simultaneously, the Special Registration Anywhere Program (SRAP) was also held in Metro Manila and will last up to August 7.

Garcia said the Comelec does not intend to extend the 10-day voter registration but a new voter registration may be held from the third week of October 2025 up to July 2026, if the proposed postponement of the BSKE from December 1, 2025 to November 2026.
