CONEY Reyes says she is well aware that most viewers dislike her character as Isabella Gonzales, the hostile mother in law of Carla Abellana as Adele in the hit primetime soap, “Love of My Life”, that’s now back on GMA Telebabad.

“Wala tayong magagawa kasi ‘yun ang hinihingi ng role ko,” she says. “But I’m glad a lot of viewers are happy that we are back on the air. As of now, ang mapapanood is the recap of the past episodes we aired before we were suspended by the lockdown. But later, you’d be able to watch na the fresh new episodes that we did on lock in taping sa Tagaytay.”

Didn’t she get bored while they were all cooped up in the same place for several weeks?

“Hindi naman. Maganda ang samahan naming lahat ng buong cast. At dahil nga doon, natuto ako mag-Tiktok. Would you believe tinuruan ako ni Samantha Lopez sa steps ng aming sayaw then inupload nila sa internet. Nakailang upload na nga kami sa Instagram ng pagsasayaw namin. Nakakatuwa dahil okay naman ang feedback ng mga tao, pati mismo ng mga anak ko.”

In “Love of My Life”, she is the disciplinarian mother of Mikael Daez as Nikolai. In real life, was she as strict to her three kids: L.A. and Carla Mumar, and Vico Sotto?

“Up to a point, I can say na disciplinarian ako. As you know, I’m a single mother who raised my kids by myself. But I was never that strict na sobrang nasasakal na sila. What is important in parenting is meron kayong magandang samahan ng mga anak mo. May mutual respect kayo as mother and children. At ako, I’m really proud na napalaki kong marespeto, loving, at may takot sa Diyos ang mga anak ko.”

Well, these traits are surely very visible in Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto who is obviously well-bred and with good upbringing that makes him a very good public servant.

“I think noong bata sila, I was much stricter but now, I do not interfere anymore kasi I believe that I raised them well in the ways of the Lord,” adds Coney. “Yun naman ang importante sa lahat, ang lumaki silang maka-Diyos, with good Christian values.”

At 65, she could very well just retire, but she’s happy that she still gets good roles like her role in “Love of My Life”.

“Enjoy naman ako sa show namin and I get along fine with the whole cast, sina Carla, Mikael and Rhian Ramos, along with our director, Don Michael Perez. Abangan nyo ang bagong episodes we did sa lock in taping at paganda nang paganda ang kuwento.”
