Congressman Teves arrested in Timor Leste

Arnie Teves

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) confirmed the arrest of former Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves, Jr. in Deli, Timor-Leste where he is currently seeking asylum.

It will be recalled that Teves flew out of the country after he was dragged into the shooting death of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo on March 4, 2023.

The PNP and the Department of Justice said they are currently in talks regarding the return of Congressman Arnie Teves to the country.

The PNP confirmation came after Teves’ son Axl posted on social media regarding the arrest of his father inside his home in Deli, Timor Leste.

Teves had been alleged as the mastermind in the killing of then Governor Roel Degamo and nine others right inside their compound in Pamplona, Negros Oriental in 2023. Teves denied the charges.

Teves is said to be currently being detained at the compound of the Ministry of the Interior of Timor Leste.

His lawyer Atty. Ferdinand Topacio said that Teves was with his Portuguese lawyer Joao Serra during the former Congressman’s arrest.

Topacio said that no warrant or written order was shown by the Timor Leste Immigration authorities when Teves was nabbed and that they are clueless about the reason for the arrest.

Meanwhile, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said it continues to monitor the latest updates on Teves.
