A 35-year-old man who stabbed to death a sleeping construction worker as a result of an earlier altercation had been arrested by the Manila Police District (MPD).

Suspect Jayson Celedonio,35, of T.M. Kalaw Avenue Ermita, Manila, was arrested by the MPD in a follow-up operation conducted a day after the murder took place on the night of September 2, 2025.

In his report, PSSg John Rupert Agustin of the MPD -homicide section identified the victim as Romnic Abion, 32, of No. 1014 Romualdez St., Ermita, Manila.

He was reportedly sleeping with his live-in partner at the corner of San Marcelino Street and Kalaw Avenue in Ermita when the suspect arrived already armed with a bladed weapon. He then stabbed the victim repeatedly in the different parts of the body, while the victim was asleep.

Police said that based on the account of the victim’s partner, the two earlier had a heated verbal exchange which ended with the suspect leaving a threat that he will return to finish their fight.

At 10:40 p.m., the suspect arrived and killed the victim before fleeing on foot.

A case for murder was filed against him before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
