Coordinated BJMP Response Leads to Successful Medical Rescue

Legazpi City, Albay – Personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Sorsogon were commended for their swift and coordinated response to a medical emergency involving a fainting student along Rizal Street, Ilawod East, Legazpi City.

The incident occurred near CitiHardware and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) office, where a female student, identified as Mae Bongkiki, a resident of Janop, Malinao, Albay, and a student at Toprank Review Center, collapsed unexpectedly.

Jail Officer 2 Joven A. Poguilla, Escort Officer, and Jail Officer 1 Katrina Mae N. Lopez, Records Officer, both from Sorsogon City District Jail (SCDJ), were passing through the area when a bystander flagged them down for assistance. The officers immediately stopped to assess the student’s condition, noting that she had a weak pulse and shallow breathing.

BJMP Medical Rescue

Fortunately, Dr. Singh of Albay Medical Education Center (AMEC), who happened to be nearby, provided initial medical assistance while further support was being arranged.

Meanwhile, personnel of Irosin District Jail (IDJ) promptly contacted emergency medical services and secured the area and managed traffic to ensure a safe and orderly response.

Due to traffic congestion delaying the ambulance’s arrival, Jail Senior Inspector Samuel P. Mirandilla, Provincial Jail Administrator, BJMP Sorsogon, made the decisive call to transport the student using a BJMP vehicle. She was escorted to the Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center (BRHMC) by Jail Senior Inspector Mirandilla, along with Senior Jail Officer 2 Harold Olaguera, Jail Officer 2 Joven Poguilla, Jail Officer 1 Michael Marantal, Jail Officer 1 Joselle Mico Bordeus, Jail Officer 1 Lopez, Dr. Singh, and several students.

Upon arrival, Ms. Bongkiki was immediately admitted to the Emergency Room for treatment. BJMP officers also assisted in contacting her family and extended further support to her classmates who were present during the incident.

This swift and compassionate response exemplifies the BJMP’s continued commitment to public safety and service. Going beyond their custodial responsibilities, the officers involved demonstrated professionalism, readiness, and humanity in the face of an emergency.
