COVID task force to strictly enforce nationwide curfew

THE Joint Task Force COVID Shield will strictly enforce a nationwide curfew to bolster the fight against the deadly virus, Lieutenant General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said yesterday.

The official said that in coordination with PNP chief General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, he has ordered all police commanders to assist in the strict and effective implementation of curfew by local government units (LGUs).

Of particular concern is the National Capital Region where a metro-wide curfew is in place due to the high cases of the corona virus disease (COVID-19), Eleazar said.

The commander of the JTF COVID Shield said curfew must be implemented across the country since it is an efficient measure to contain the spread of the coronavirus as it prevents the unnecessary movement of people which is blamed as one of the reasons for the quick transmission of the virus.

“Curfew must be enforced regardless of the existing community quarantine status. Containing the unnecessary movement and gathering of people even within a community is part of the general medical solution against COVID-19 since what we are after is the prevention of the spread of this deadly virus,” he explained.

Still in GCQ

On Monday night, President Duterte approved the recommendation of the National Task Force on COVID-19 chaired by Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana to place Metro Manila, Bulacan, Batangas, and the cities of Tacloban and Bacolod under General Community Quarantine until September 30.

Iligan City will be under the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine while the rest of the country is under the Modified GCQ.
