Cusi, Skycable are opposites; PAL, Air asia offer cheap tickets

THE residents of Miramonte Village in Pansol, Laguna are all praises for Department of Energy (DoE) Secretary Alfonso Cusi for his very swift action to a social media complaint about a huge tree that had fallen on top of several electric wires, thus endangering the lives and safety of those living in the area.

In less than an hour after the complaint was posted, Cusi directed action and the tree was removed in no time. The problem had been there since October 22 and two typhoons. Calls made to Meralco had fallen on deaf ears, thus, the post. It was an accident waiting to happen, thanks to Cusi, without whose intervention and immediate action, the problem could not have been resolved.

Cusi should also be credited for the quick restoration of power in major areas after typhoon ‘Ulysses.’ If only all government officials were like him… ***

Speaking of such competence and efficiency, SkyCable, once again, was just the exact opposite.

My nephew and his neighbors who depend on the said company not only for cable services but also for connectivity, two very important things specially in this time of the pandemic, said that up to this writing, Skycable services have not been restored since it went kaput November 12.

While it is understandable that basic utilities’ services were inevitably disrupted by the typhoon, water and power services were back in no time.

Funnily too, over a day-and-a-half after its signal went kaput, Skycable sent a text message belatedly ‘advising’ its customers that technical issues ‘affected’ its services and that its team was supposedly ‘on top of it to restore’ said service at 22:00 (11 p.m.) of November 13.

As of this writing (evening of Nov. 16), there’s been no update and no signal. Meantime, the payment is continuous and the question now is this — will Skycable compensate its aggrieved customers? It should but seriously, I doubt if it would. By the way, before getting the late advisory, I texted and then tried calling the guy who contacted me regarding a complaint I wrote in a previous column, to inquire on what happened but his phone just kept ringing.

SKYCABLE ought to know that in any business or personal dealings, YOUR WORD IS YOUR HONOR! ***

With the country’s major airline companies still reeling from the adverse effects of the pandemic, there are also promos aimed at revving up the industry.

Ma. Cielo Villaluna, spokesperson of Philippine Airlines, said those who are planning to travel next year (2021) may book their flight now, with PAL’s latest offering — domestic flights as low as P388 one-way economy base fare and international flights for as low as US$99 roundtrip economy base fare.

Villaluna said the buying period is from November 16 to 22, 2020 while the travel period on the other hand, is January 10 to September 30, 2021 for domestic and for international travel, January 15 to September 30, 2021.

“Experience safe and worry-free travels with unlimited rebooking. PAL is strictly implementing “new normal” health and safety protocols to ensure that you are protected as you travel with us,” she assured.

Rebooking must be made seven days prior to departure and fare differences may apply and those interested may visit www.philippineairlines.com, call Reservations Hotline (02) 8855 8888 or visit the nearest PAL ticket office.
