Customs broker, two others sentenced to life for drugs

The Manila Regional Trial Court sentenced to life imprisonment Custom broker Mark Ruben Taguba and two others, for their role in the controversial smuggling of P6.4 billion worth of shabu. The issue is now the subject of a QuadComm probe.

In a 37- page decision penned by Judge Rainelda Estacio-Montesa of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 46, Taguba, Eirene Mae Tatad and Dong Yi Shen, alias “Kenneth Dong,” were found ‘guilty’ for violation of Section 4 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (Republic Act No. 9165). They were also ordered to pay a fine of P500,000 each.

The case stemmed from the controversial shipment of 602,279 kilograms of methamphetamine chloride or shabu in May 2017.

The court archived the cases against other individuals also linked to the said shipment that include Chen Julong alias Richard Tan; Li Guang Feng alias Anny Li, Teejay Marcellana and Chen I-Min.

The arrest warrants issued to them remain active.
