DILG chief Ano on sick leave

INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año is reportedly again in sick bay, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

Año, who was infected with COVID -19 twice in the past, filed a five-day leave of absence starting January 6-10.

The DILG however did not mention what was ailing the DILG chief.

In a Department Order obtained by this writer, Año designated Undersecretary Bernardo Florece Jr. as the DILG’s Officer-in-Charge for the duration of the sick leave.

In DO 2021-004 dated January 5, 2021, Año said; “In view of the sick leave of the undersigned from January 6-10, Undersecretary Bernardo Florece Jr. is hereby designated as the DILG Officer-in-Charge for the duration of the said sick leave.”

At the height of the fight against the dreaded coronavirus pandemic, Año tested positive twice, first in March and the second in mid-August.

During that time, even while in isolation, the former top soldier continued to discharge his duties as DILG chief.

People’s Journal yesterday texted DILG Spokesperson and Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya around 11 concerning Ano’s ailment but Malaya had not responded as of presstime.
