Dimaculangan to join PLDT in PVL

COACH Roger Gorayeb is upbeat about PLDT Home Fibr’s maiden campaign in the PVL after getting the services of veteran playmaker Rhea Dimaculangan to complete the club’s roster.

With a deep team, Gorayeb, a triple crown champion in the defunct V-League, believes that his Power Hitters has what it takes to keep in step with the league’s powerhouses.

Masaya na ako sa team na ito kasi parang nagkaroon ng rebirth yung PLDT dahil sa mga bagong players. Naging kumpleto na siya,” said Gorayeb, whose lone PVL championship was with BaliPure in the 2017 Open Conference.

Itong team na ito, halo-halo na talaga ng players na nagsisimula na sa pros. Parang halos batang-bata yung team na ito pero based on their experience, laban na sila. Lalaban yung team na ito,” he added.

The Power Hitters yesterday revealed their final acquisition for the upcoming season by tapping Dimaculangan as the club’s lead setter.

For Gorayeb, it was only right that he and the 29-year-old former University of Santo Tomas standout be reunited to set the tone for this rebuilding process for PLDT.

Si Rhea kasi kabisado ko na. Naging setter ko siya sa national team, nakapag-champion din kami dati sa Sandugo, pati sa mga laro sa probinsya,” said Gorayeb.

Dimaculangan was Gorayeb’s setter in 2013 and 2015 with the national team and with Sandugo-San Sebastian in the 2012 V-League Open Conference.

Talagang kilala ko na si Rhea at sanay na rin siya sa akin,” he added.

A native of Batangas, Dimaculangan joins University of the Philippines stalwarts Isa Molde and Marist Layug, San Beda product Nieza Viray, Eli Soyud, Chin Basas and Yeye Gabarda as the Power Hitters’ new personnel.

Holdovers from last year are former NCAA MVP Shola Alvarez, Jorelle Singh, Aiko Urdas, Joyce Sta. Rita, Vira Guillema, Kath Villegas, and libero Alyssa Eroa.
