Dismissal of case vs 2 Ilocos cops fake news

PHILIPPINE National Police chief, General Camilo Pancratius P. Cascolan yesterday branded as ‘fake news’ reports that the administrative charges filed against two Ilocos Sur policemen jailed in connection with a celebrated rape-slay case have been dismissed.

“I would like to debunk another patently fake news circulating in social media on the purported dismissal of administrative cases against Police Sergeant Randy Ramos and PSgt. Marawi Torda who were both indicted for the murder of a 17-year old victim of a sex crime in Ilocos Sur.

The fact is, the Internal Affairs Service has resolved the administrative case against the two respondents for “conduct unbecoming of a police officer” with the penalty of dismissal from the service,” the PNP chief told a prss conference at Camp Crame.

The two policemen are also currently undergoing summary hearing for murder. This only goes to show that misconduct and breach of discipline have no place in the PNP. We will continue to actively sustain the momentum of our internal cleansing campaign without fear or favor,” Gen. Cascolan said.

The PNP chief described as ‘false information’ some published reports (not in the Journal Group) that the charges against the two Ilocos Sur policemen have been dismissed already.

The two policemen were also charged with murder before an Ilocos Sur Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for the killing of Fabel Pineda last July 2.

Investigators said that before she was killed, the victim had filed a case for acts of lasciviousness against Torda. On the other hand, Ramos was accused of raping the teenager.

The two policemen from the San Juan Municipal Police Station were accused of apprehending the victim and a female companion over curfew and quarantine violations. The two girls were reportedly drunk when they were supposedly sexually abused by the accused.

Last July 2, Fabella and two relatives have just left the Cabugao MPS where they filed charges against the two when they were shot by gunmen riding in a van. Fabella died on the spot.

The incident triggered the administrative relief and investigation of the chiefs of police of the Cabugao and San Juan police stations in the province.
