MANILA Police District (MPD) Director PBGen. Andre Dizon has tendered his courtesy resignation in compliance to the request of Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos and join all other full-fledged colonels and generals in tendering courtesy resignation.

At the same time, Dizon also called on all those who are covered or who will be covered by Abalos’ request to also heed it, saying it will be a good way to prove that they have nothing to do with illegal drugs.

Dizon’s pronouncement stemmed from a statement from the Philippine National Police which said that the purging among the PNP ranks will not end with the courtesy resignation of full police colonels and generals. Numbering over 950 in all.

PNP Chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin, Jr. led the submission of courtesy resignations, along with his command group that included Deputy Chief for Administration PLt. Gen Rhodel Sermonia and Deputy Chief for Operations PLt. Gen Benjamin Santos.

Dizon expressed support for the move of Secretary Abalos to cleanse the ranks of the PNP and rid it of cops involved in illegal drugs, specially those considered to be third level officials.

Abalos earlier expressed dismay that following a thorough investigation, it turned out that some generals and colonels serve as ‘protectors’ of illegal drug peddlers in the country.

Dizon also echoed the opinion of Gen. Azurin that the call for courtesy resignation made by Abalos is a challenge to restore the ‘moral ascendancy’ of the PNP over the populace.
