DOLE develops QR code for COVID health checklist

TO contain the spread of COVID-19, the Department of Labor and Employment’s department’s regional office in the industry-rich Calabarzon has developed a Quick Response (QR) code that takes body temperature, writes down contact details, and allows quick tracing of visitors and employees.

Henry John S. Jalbuena, DOLE IV-A regional director, said the online health checklist, which functions like a digital logbook using QR codes, was rolled out to screen all its visitors and employees.
“These online services aim to respond to the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic by developing new systems, innovating ways to communicate, and in bringing fresh approaches in providing better client experience while observing health and safety protocols,” he said.

Jalbuena said all employees and clients of DOLE IV-A who would like to enter the office are required to scan the QR code before they can enter the premises. They can use their mobile phones or tablets to scan the QR code when entering the building.

The system enables the office to keep track of the employees and visitors via a digital log and allow for quick contact tracing by health authorities if one of them tests positive for COVID-19.
“Contact tracing is an essential step that is why the online health checklist is being implemented to speed up the current manual processes and to make it quicker to stop the spread of the virus, particularly if the restrictions are eased,” the DOLE official said as he underscored the critical role of technology in containing the pandemic.

Those with Apple gadgets can use their cameras to scan the QR code while Android users are encouraged to download the Google Lens application to scan the codes.

Users will be required to provide their contact information after scanning the code posted at the office entrance and answer a quick health symptoms questionnaire which will be evaluated by the safety officers on duty.

“It is only for one purpose, to help in contact tracing. It aims to assist public health authorities to find those persons who are at risk more quickly, thus helping them to get early diagnosis and treatment and to ensure that everyone is protected at all times,” the official stressed.

Jalbuena assured the public that all their personal information can only be accessed by the administrator of the system and is protected by the Republic Act No. 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

To maintain contactless transactions and safeguard the welfare of its employees and clients, DOLE IV-A has also developed its Client Appointment System, Request for Assistance Online Filing System, Registration of Establishment, and Request for Certificate of Involuntary Separation for SSS Unemployment Benefits.

It has also developed an online system on applying for Construction Safety and Health Program, Application for No Pending Case, Report of Safety Organization, Annual Medical Report, Registration of Job Service Contractor/Job Contractor, Request for Technical Safety Inspection, Application for Alien Employment Permit, Internal Documents Requisition System, and Online Application System for DOLE IV-A Vacancies.
