DOTr ready to increase public transport capacity

THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it is ready to implement the proposal of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to increase to 75 percent the current public transportation capacity, if so approved by the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF), and as directed by the Cabinet.

This, as Engineer Alex Yague, executive director of Provincial Bus Operators Association of the Philippines (PBOAP), said they fully support NEDA’s proposal to open 70% of provincial bus routes to Metro Manila in order to reopen the economy and help thousands of people who lost their jobs.

Yague said this will assure commuters of safe and comfortable travel to the provinces in lieu of colorum vans.

Bus operators will also implement all the necessary safety protocols set by Inter-Agency Task Force (AITF), said Yague.
