“Isapuso ang kasabihang ‘cleanliness is next to godliness.”

This was the call made by Mayor Honey Lacuna to Manila residents, as she also urged parents and school institutions to instill the importance of the said old saying in the minds of children, so that they will develop the habit of cleanliness up to the time that they become adults.

The lady mayor’s pronouncements came as she commended the personnel from the department of public services (DPS) headed by Kyle Nicole Amurao, saying they work round-the-clock to keep the entire city clean.

Lacuna lauded, among others, the ‘power sweepers’ who keep the streets clean and the ‘estero rangers’ and ‘Baseco Beach warriors’ who, on the other hand, keep the waters of Manila Bay and Baseco clean.

The vendors in Divisoria, she said, have been directed to clean their immediate vicinities and keep their wastes in a garbage bag so as not to make it difficult for the DPS personnel should they do the gathering of the wastes themselves on a daily basis.

Turning to trash gathered by the DPS from the bay waters everyday, Lacuna said: “Nakakalungkot dahil pawang basurang nanggagaling sa mga tahanan ng ating mga kababayan ang nakukuha nila.

May clearing operations pa.

The lady mayor said that Manila is the most densely-populated city in the world and as such, garbage volume is huge.

Lacuna called on Manilans to put to heart the age-old saying that “cleanliness is next to godliness” in order to help keep their very own city clean at all times.
