THE Department of Public Works and Highways yesterday reported that all national roads in Albay and Camarines Sur are already passable as the DPWH Regional Office 5 and its District Engineering Offices joined hands in massive clearing operations following super typhoon Rolly’s onslaught.
DPWH Secretary Mark A. VIllar commended the DPWH Sorsogon 1st and 2nd DEOs, with their additional manpower and equipment deployed in Albay, which allowed the department to fast-track the opening of roads affected by the recent supertyphoon.
“We are also looking into augmenting our teams in Catanduanes to expedite our clearing operations in vital areas,” Villar added.
As of 6 a.m., Nov. 5, three national roads in typhoon-hit Catanduanes remain impassable to motorists due to fallen trees and electric posts and landslides.
DPWH Quick Response Teams are still clearing the Catanduanes Circumferential Road, specifically in Barangay Balongbong, Bato Town; Barangay Libod, Pandan Town; Barangay Putting Baybay, San Andres Town; and some intermittent sections in the municipality of San Miguel and San Andres.
The DPWH is also working on fully opening hardly passable or only one-lane passable road sections along Catanduanes Circumferential Road, from Belmonte, San Andres to Barangay Francia, Virac Town; in Barangay Marinawa, Bato Town; in the municipality of San Miguel; and in San Andres.
The Jct. Bato – Baras Road K0012+000 – K0013+000 and K0013+600 sections in the municipality of Bato, and intermittent sections of Baras – Gigmoto – Viga Road in the municipality of Baras are also currently being cleared due to landslides and fallen trees and electric posts.
Villar flew to Albay on Wednesday to inspect the typhoon-ravaged province.
