The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has already started construction activities for the additional modular hospital at the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) in Quezon City.
Secretary and Chief Isolation Czar Mark A. Villar said that the pop-up health facility being built by DPWH is part of the government efforts to expand capacity of major hospitals providing healthcare service to peole infected of Covid-19.
According to Secretary Villar, five (5) units of modular hospitals will be put up by the DPWH Task Force to Facilitate Augmentation of Local and National Health Facilities headed by Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain on vacant space of LCP as additional treatment facility for moderate, severe and critical Covid-19 patients.
In his report to Secretary Villar following a site visit with DPWH Bureau of Construction Director and Task Force member Aristarco Doroy, Undersecretary Sadain said that layout of three (3) out of the five (5) proposed modular hospitals were already established as of April 24, 2021.
Undersecretary Sadain added that based on design and build plan as agreed with the LCP hospital management, four (4) typical designed with 88 beds and one (1) intensive care unit (ICU) type modular hospital with 22 beds or a total of 110-bed capacity will be constructed to augment the health facility requirement of LCP.
DPWH had ealier built modular facilities at LCP composed of eight (8) fully airconditioned rooms with two (2) hospital beds per room to accommodate 16 moderate, severe and critical Covid-19 case, and 16 rooms with double-decker bed as temporary shelter of health professionals taking care of patients.
To date, DPWH thru the Task Force formed by Secretary Villar has already put up several modular hospitals for Covid-19 treatment: one (1) ICU type with 16-bed capacity at Lung Center of the Philippines; four (4) typical designed and one (1) ICU type modular hospital at Quezon Institute-Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc (QI-PTSI), Quezon City with a total of 110-bed capacity; one (1) typical designed modular hospital with 22-bed capacity at Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium (DJNRMHS), Caloocan City; and one (1) typical designed with 21 beds and a 10 bed capacity one (1) ICU type modular hospital at Batangas Medical Center, Batangas City.
